A great way to get hands on and catch some fish for the BBQ.
The south coast of the island has long been regarded as one of the best mackerel fishing grounds in England, with mackerel regularly seen in the summer splashing at the surface. On early summer mornings you may see a strip of shiny whitebait and sand eels just above the high tide mark. This is where the mackerel have chased the tiny fish up onto the beach as the tide is going out.
WHAT WE DO
Our 1hr15 minute trip out to the tide race, south of Bonchurch is ideal for first time ‘fishers’, for families and groups of all ages.
Our 9m Cheetah Catamaran takes just a few minutes to cruise out to the best mackerel fishing spots where we provide you with all the equipment to catch mackerel. We spend a good 50 minutes fishing. On the way back to the harbour we'll gut and ice the mackerel and make suggestions on how to cook them. If we haven't caught mackerel in that time –chances are there are none about!
IS THIS FOR ME? Mackerel fishing has proved very popular with families where children enjoy learning where real fish actually come from and how it is caught. If you don't fancy fishing - bring a book or simply enjoy the fresh sea air and breathtaking views of the Undercliff.
